Kogi has attracted investors in tourism sector, says Gov Bello
Gov Yahaya Bello of Kogi on Wednesday said his government has attracted many investors in tourism sector due to the enabling environment that has been created by his administration.
The governor made the disclosure in Lokoja at a program organised by the State’s Ministry of Culture and Tourism to mark this year’s “World Tourism Day (WTD) 2017”.
The governor, who was represented by the Commissioner for Culture and Tourism, Mr Mohammed Imam, said his administration has attracted various investors in all sectors which had inturn boosted the economy of the state.
He said that in the next few months, the Confluence Beach would be taken over by an investor who would properly harness the tourism potentials of the beach to attract local and foreign tourists.
He added that all necessary arrangements had also been put in place for an American investor to begin to invest in Mount Patti, with the major focus on resorts.
He said that a bill has also been sent to Kogi House of Assembly that will enable the optimum development and promotion of the vast tourism resources available in the state.
He further added that the state government was in partnership with the Nigeria Institute of Architects to remodel the historical relics and monuments across the state.
“The theme for this 2017 WTD is ‘Sustainable Tourism- a Tool for Development’, which takes full account of its current and future economic, social and environmental impacts.
“The theme also provides opportunity to reaffirm our commitment to sustainability and ensure positive impacts of well-managed tourism on inclusive and equitable growth that promotes sustainable development and peace,” Bello said.
Mr Lewis Asubiojo, the Special Adviser to the Governor on Culture and Tourism, in his vote of thanks, assured the people that the new direction government of Alhaji Yahaya Bello, would not leave the state tourism sector the way it was met.
He urged the people to continue to support the present administration, saying the government was doing her best to improve the well being of the citizenry.
The World Tourism Day is marked every Sept. 27, to raise awareness of Tourism as an important pillar for development.
Other side attractions of the event was the crowning of the winners of beauty pageant competition of Ms Kogi Tourism 2017, Ms Culture and many others.
